Mark Billingham Bio


Birmingham born and bred, Mark Billingham has worked as an actor, a TV writer and a stand-up comedian. His first crime novel Sleepyhead was published in 2001 and became an instant bestseller in the UK.

This series of crime novels featuring London-based detective Tom Thorne now totals sixteen books. Mark is also the author of the standalone novels In The Dark , Rush Of Blood and Die of Shame.

An acclaimed television series based on the Thorne novels was screened on Sky One in Autumn 2010, starring David Morrissey as Tom Thorne. A series based on the books In The Dark and Time Of Death was screened on BBC1 in 2017.

Mark is a member of the Fun Lovin’ Crime Writers, a “twisted collective of musically-inclined crime writers who enjoy murdering songs for fun”. They are hugely popular in the literary festival scene and played Glastonbury 2019.

Mark lives in London with his wife and two children. He is currently writing his next novel.
