Beth O’Leary is only in her twenties and her debut novel, The Flatshare was written during her commute to and from her job in children’s publishing. How can anyone reading the premis, Tiffy and Leon share a flat. Tiffy and Leon share a bed. Tiffy and Leon have never met… not want to read more?
The Flatshare was published by Quercus last year and sold over one hundred thousand copies and is in the process of being translated into over thirty-two languages. That’s a huge achievement, especially by a debut novelist. The Flatshare was WH Smith’s 2019 Fiction Book of the Year, and if that wasn’t exciting enough, it is also currently in development for TV. Thanks to the huge success of The Flatshare, Beth was able to leave her job and now writes full time.
If you loved The Flatshare, like so many of us did, then you can look forward to reading her second novel, The Switch. This book is about a grandmother and granddaughter and what happens when they decide to swap lives with each other for a couple of months. We can’t wait to read it and anyone who experienced a close relationship with their grandmother must wonder what such a scenario might be like. The Switch will be published in April this year. We can’t wait.
Beth’s success is going from strength to strength, and it was announced late last year that she has now signed a further two-book deal with Quercus. Her third book, The Road Trip will be published in 2021.
Beth lives as close to the countryside as she possibly can and when she isn’t writing she’s either reading or being taken for walks with her golden retriever.
You can watch Beth talk about her writing and books from 15th February in the MyVLF Theatre.
